Personnel & Board

Pastor Morie S. Ngobeh - Gereral Director

Pastor Morie S. Ngobeh, a former business man who was called to the ministry in his late forties, is the Founder and General Director of City of Rest (Deliverance Ministries). He started working with addicted street youth almost 25 years ago. After completing his Bible School Training, he took part in various training programmes on addiction and attended the leadership training course of the Haggai Institute in Singapore in 1985. It is his heart’s desire to see people set free from the oppression of Satan and rejoice in the freedom of knowing the soon coming King, Jesus Christ.

Rev. Matthew Lansana - Assistant General Director

Rev. Matthew Lansana is the Assistant General Director of City of Rest, but is mainly involved in serving as a pastor for the “Joy Assemblies of God” church, which like City of Rest was founded by the Deliverance Ministries. Pastor Matthew recently completed a Bachelor’s Degree at the Theological College of the Assemblies of God in Togo. He believes God has a unique plan for every person on earth and it is his passion to bring people to Christ and encourage them to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives.

Mrs. Mary Ngobeh - Counsellor / Finance Officer

Mrs. Mary Ngobeh worked at the Bank of Sierra Leone (Central Bank of Sierra Leone) and assisted part time at City of Rest before joining her husband in full-time ministry in 2000. Mrs. Ngobeh is a counsellor but currently she is also assisting in the Finance Office. As she and her husband are living on the top floor of the building that houses City of Rest, she is on duty almost 24 hours a day! Having brought up six children of her own and many other children that were left in her care, she often is considered a mother to our guests.

Bro Kabbie Fornah - City Father / Counsellor

Brother Kabbie Fornah has worked with “City of Rest” as the City Father and Counsellor for nine years. You will often find him sitting with our guests in the courtyard next to the building. Bro. Kabbie knows from his own experience the harmful effects of substance abuse. This motivates him to work with people recovering from drug addiction. Over the years he has gained a lot of experience. Bro. Kabbie also loves the opportunity he has to share the Good News of the gospel with those who are less fortunate.

Bro Karim Koroma - Counsellor

Many years ago, Bro. Karim Koroma became seriously ill. He visited all kinds of doctors and tried different treatments, but nothing brought relief. In 1983 Pastor Morie Ngobeh, the founder of “City of Rest” led Bro. Karim to the Lord. After that, things changed dramatically. As Bro. Karim says: “All the bad dreams turned to victory. My sickness disappeared also.”

Some time after his healing took place Bro. Karim saw himself in a dream ministering to the sick and suffering. In preparation for full-time ministry he enrolled at the Evangel Bible College of the Assemblies of God (Freetown) for a three-year diploma course. Since then he has been working with “City of Rest.” Bro. Karim considers himself an evangelist, but his work does not just comprise preaching and teaching. He also counsels our guests and prays for them. One of his main responsibilities is to follow-up on those who have completed the programme, by visiting them several times during the first few months after their discharge.

Bro Joseph P. Conteh - Counsellor

In 2002, brother Joseph P. Conteh was a final year student at the Freetown Bible Training Centre (F.B.T.C.). As part of the training he was required to get some work experience in the Christian field. When bro. Conteh studied at Springfields College in Illinois (U.S.A) in 1980, he took a credit in “Psychology of the Addiction Process.” This stirred an interest in people who are struggling with addictions. A friend told Bro. Conteh about the work Pastor Ngobeh was doing at “City of Rest”. Since he came to get his work experience, Bro. Conteh has not left the ministry anymore. After initially joining us as a volunteer, he is now working full-time as a teacher and counsellor. He is motivated by a compassion for drug-abusing youths and those suffering from mental or demonic problems

Bro Alfred Sesay - Counsellor / Finance Officer

“A Divine orchestration”, that is how Bro. Alfred Sesay describes the way he got connected with “City of Rest.” Before his conversion in 1991, Bro. Alfred was a devout Muslim. He learned the Quran, prayed five times daily, led people in prayers at the mosque, fasted every Ramadan month, believed in giving alms to the poor and strongly believed that Mohamed was the true prophet of God. But after his conversion the battle wasn’t yet over. In 1997, Bro. Alfred experienced a time of serious demonic attacks. A sister and her friends from the church he was attending brought him to “City of Rest”, where he was admitted and – through the grace and power of God – received complete healing. His time at “City of Rest” created a passion in him to serve young people who are struggling with addiction or who are suffering from mental problems or demonic attacks. Serving under the leadership of Pst. Morie Ngobeh has not only helped him to discover his potential, but also shaped him in who he is today. Bro. Alfred is a graduate from the “Evangel” Bible College of the Assemblies of God in Sierra Leone. He serves at “City of Rest” in various capacities: he helps out in the finance office, counsels and prays for the guests, conducts devotions and Sunday services, runs office errands, assists Pst. Ngobeh in his office and finally helps in evangelism and follow-up activities. He says: “By the special grace of God I have determined to be immovable and steadfast and not to allow anything to move me away from serving the Lord.” Remarkable detail: the sister who brought him to “City of Rest” has now become his wife!

Bro Francis Davies - Counsellor

Brother Francis Davies got his experience in working with young people as he worked for several years with youth in the local juvenile prison. He joined City of Rest in 2008 and has been a very dedicated counsellor and friend to many of our guests. He also helps out with teaching and administering first aid. When asked what he likes about his work at City of Rest, he says:  “I just love the people!”

Bro Sahr E. Yambasy - Counsellor (Volunteer)

Brother Sahr Emmanuel Yambasu has been a volunteer worker with “City of Rest” since 2000. He strongly believes that he should bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to all people (Matthew 28:19,20), including those who are (mentally) ill. While many pastors limit themselves to preaching, Bro. Yambasu believes that as a good pastoral carer he should not only preach or teach but also demonstrate love, concern and care for the afflicted (see John 10:11-14). He is challenged by the life of love, faith, courage and patience he sees exemplified by his leader, Pastor Morie Ngobeh. Bro. Yambasu is often seen teaching and counselling guests and praying for their recovery and victory over their situation. He also visits former guests at home and helps out with supply buying.

Bro Gabriel Jusu (Finance Assistant)

Brother Gabriel Jusu went through a challenging period in his life when he was brought to City of Rest for counselling and prayers. He found healing and restoration and decided to offer his services in the Finance Office. Currently he is taking courses to improve his computer skills.

Bro Abdulai S. Sefoi (Administrative & Project Assistant)

Brother Abdulai Sesfoi joined the City of Rest team recently after he completed his Bachelors Degree in Economics and Education at the Njala University. He is assisting with various administrative tasks and in the area of project development.

Auntie Mamie Ngobeh (Cook)

Our cook, auntie Mamie Ngobeh, faces the daily challenge of feeding at least fifty hungry people with very limited resources. Her entire “kitchen equipment” includes only some large bowls and pots and some knifes. Twice a day the food is prepared over a big fire. Between the meals Auntie Mamie goes to the market to purchase fresh ingredients for the next day. We are very grateful for her faithful service!

Heleen van den Brink (Consultant)

Ever since Heleen started working in Sierra Leone in 2003, her heart went out to the mental patients roaming the streets of Freetown. Little had she expected to actually work with them. When the mission she worked with closed down their projects in Sierra Leone in 2006, Heleen did not feel her time in Sierra Leone was over yet. One day in the streets of Freetown she ran into a beautiful lady suffering from serious mental problems and facing severe rejection and abandonment. In her search for a home for her new-found friend, Heleen met Pastor Morie Ngobeh who introduced her to his ministry at “City of Rest”. In July 2007 Heleen joined the team at City of Rest as a consultant. Her role is to help the organisation grow and develop. She describes her job as “the most challenging but also most beautiful job I’ve ever had.”
